What Does Advent Mean and How Do We Celebrate It?

In the Spiritual Christian community, Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas. We use an Advent Wreath to celebrate this time of preparation and expectancy, and help us enter Christmas in a spirit of reverence and joy, rather than stress and weariness.

The Advent Wreath is a circle, which symbolizes the Omnipotence, Omnipresence, Omniscience, and Omni-activity of God, and the never-ending love we experience when we are connected in Spirit, recognizing that oneness.

The greenery symbolizes growth and renewal, as we renew our commitment to Truth principle and our relationship with God.

The candles, one for each Sunday of Advent, represent four attitudes we foster as we move through the Christmas season: Expectancy; Peace; Joy; and Love. We also include a white candle in the center, which represents Jesus the Christ. This candle is lit on Christmas Day.
